Jump to Case One: Google Chrome Won't Open on Mac/Windows - This Google chrome not opening trouble comes to computers running.
Google Chrome issue: Today I encountered a strange issue as Google chrome will not launch on a user’s newly deployed Mac with MacOS 10.13.2 High Sierra loaded. Every time I click on chrome icon to launch it, it just bounces in dock and then vanishes. Nothing opens or happens after and we are just looking at the screen like ok wth is going on! First thing I tried was uninstalling Google chrome app and then install fresh copy from. Installation went fine but the same issue remains.
Made me think a little. I quickly switched to my local admin account and launched chrome. It launched fine and chrome is asking me to make it a default browser. I switch back to user’s account and gave it another try but no luck. Same thing, the icon appears in dock and vanishes after 1-2 secs. Now, I knew installation was fine, it must be some type of library folder permissions issue. But where does Google Chrome store its local data on Macs?
Well, here is step-by-step quick fix that resolved the issue Go to Finder. Click on Go from top menu and pick Go to folder Type in /Library/ and press Enter. It will open the user’s library folder In library folder, right-click Google folder and pick Get info In the Info window, click on Sharing and Permissions to open its options. Click on the lock to unlock it (Enter your password when prompted).
Now click on the + button to add permissions and pick the account from the list that’s having the issue. Click Select and now the username will appear in the Sharing and Permissions list. After the username appears on the list, Click on “Read only” next to the username and change it to “Read & Write”. Now one last step. While the username is still selected and Privilege setting changed to Read & Write, click on the settings icon as shown below and pick “Apply to enclosed items”. A confirmation window will appear asking you to confirm the change, Click OK. Now click on the lock icon again to lock the changes and that’s it.
Launch Google chrome again and it should launch as normal. Happy browsing! For more articles, visit EZ TechSpot Similar Posts:.
